Word for the Day May 8 By: Evang. Cascille Hammack
"He who is slothful in his work is a brother to him who is a great destroyer."
Proverbs 18:9
The Lord rewards diligence. He requires it in every area of the
lives of those who serve Him. Hebrews 11:6 says, "...He is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."
Proverbs 18:9 makes plain that the one who is slack in what he does is brother to a great destroyer.
Being lazy is equated to being a great destroyer. God does not want His children to make excuses for not being
diligent. People make idols of excuses and in the end do not fulfill the will of God. Colossians 3:23-25 instructs,
"Whatever you do, work at it will all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will
receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong
will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism." 2 Cor. 5:10 explains, "For we must all appear before
the judgement seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done in the body, whether good
or bad." Ephesians 6:7,8 explains, "Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because
you know the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does..."
Put aside the excuses that you
have served in the past. Excuses becomes idols that are a stumbling block to your faith. Serve the Lord with your
whole heart. He who called you is faithful and He will reward your work. Romans 12:1 teaches, "Therefore,
I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God- this is
your spiritual act of worship."
