Word for the Day May 20
By: Evang. Cascille Hammack
"I
have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the people of Ammon, with which they have reproached My people, and
made arrogant threats against their borders. Therefore, as I live, says the Lord of hosts, the God of Isreal, 'Surely
Moab shall be like Sodom, and the people of Gomorrah- overrun with weeds and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation; the
residue of My people will plunder them, and the remnant of My people will possess them." Zeph. 2:8,9
God addresses the people who had attacked His people through Zephaniah's warning. Because of
the pride and arrogance of those who had attacked God's people, He would arise and bring harsh judgement to them to show
them there is a God who reigns on the earth and protects His people. He is the same God today. He will arise and
protect those who belong to Him against those who malign them. He hears every Word spoken against God's elect.
He is a righteous judge and will raise up a standard against all who oppose His chosen vessels.
It is a
terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God. He will not be mocked. He guards the lives of those who
belong to Him. Many show by their deeds in the world we live in today that they do not fear Him. But this does
not change His Word or His promises to protect those who are His. He is a strong defender and will guard the lives of
those who are His.
Take heart if you have been attacked by the ungodly. He will defend you in power
and He will do it quickly. Sometimes it takes a terrible threat for God's people to endure in order for the enemies
of God to learn the fear of the Lord. Touching His anointed ones
activates His power to defend them. The battle is not yours, but the Lord's.
He will balance the scales of all injustices, for He is a just God. He
is faithful. He is Jehovah-Nissi, our Banner and Jehovah-Rohi, our Shepherd and Jehovah-Shammah, our God who is there! Jesus' instructions to us is to love and pray for them. In Matthew 5:43-48, Jesus said, “You
have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love
your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes
his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love
those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet
only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore,
as your heavenly Father is perfect."
