"Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: 'The Lord
knows those who are His,' and,
'Everyone who confesses the Name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.' " 2 Timothy 2:19
Jesus described in Matthew 24:12
an unbelievable increase in immorality, shamelessness and rebellion against God before He returns. Jesus said in
Matthew 24:12,13, "Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to
the end will be saved." Sexual perversion, immorality, adultery, pornography, drugs, ungodly music and lustful
entertainment will abound. Jesus warned in Matthew 24:37-39, "As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be
at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying
and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen
until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man." Jesus
said it will be "as in the days of Noah" (verse 37), when the thoughts of human hearts were evil continually (Gen.
6:5). In Luke 17:28,30, Jesus said it will be as "in the days of Lot", when all kinds of sexual perversion
permeated society. Jesus explains that true love will be rare. This describes our society today. Genesis
6:5,6 describes the culture of Noah's time, "The LORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become
on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. The LORD regretted
that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled."
2 Timothy 2:19 describes God's solid foundation and plainly says it is
inscribed with two truths. One, God knows those who remain true to Him ("The Lord knows those who are His").
Two, those who really belong to God turn away from wickedness ("Everyone who confesses the Name of the Lord must turn
away from wickedness."). Timothy describes the very foundation of God having these two facts inscribed permanently
on them. He knows His true children and they obey Him. Conversely, Psalm 10:4 describes those who do not
love Him, their thoughts are too full of themselves. "In his pride the wicked does not seek Him; in all his thoughts
there is no room for God." Those who love God, do what He says. "God will give to each person according
to what he has done." Romans 2:6
