"As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without
watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is
My word that goes out from My mouth: It will not return to Me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and
achieve the purpose for which I sent it." Isaiah 55:10
It is so important to listen to Jesus' Words
that He said, "whoever hears My Word and believes Him to who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned."
(John 5:24) Jesus is so closely identified with the Word that He is referred to as "the Word". John
1:1 says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John 1:14 says,
"The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory. The glory of the One and Only, who
came from the Father, full of grace and truth." As a person's words reveal their heart, Christ as "the Word"
reveals the heart and mind of God. In John 14:8 Philip asked Jesus to show them the Father. "Jesus answered, 'Don't
you know Me, Philip even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen Me, has seen the Father.
How can you say, 'Show us the Father?' " John 14:9 Then in John 14:10,11 Jesus explains, "Don’t you
believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The Words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority.
Rather, it is the Father, living in Me, who is doing His work. Believe Me when I say that I am in the Father and
the Father is in Me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves."
Through Christ, God the Father created the world and now
sustains it. John 1:3 says, "Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made."
In speaking of Christ Supremacy Colossians 1: 16 says, "For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him."
God has spoken and revealed Himself to us in His Son Jesus Christ. Hebrews 1:2,3 says, "but in these last
days He has spoken to us by his Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom also He made the universe.
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful
Word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
After Jesus had fasted forty
days and forty nights, Satan came and told Him to turn the stones into bread if He was the Son of God. "Jesus answered,
'It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone alone, but on every Word that comes from the mouth of God.' " Matthew
3:4 Because the Pharisees loved human praise more that the praise from God, they would not openly acknowledge their
faith. Jesus exclaimed in John 12:44-50, "Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in Me
does not believe in Me only, but in the One who sent Me. The one who looks at Me is seeing the One who
sent Me. I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in Me should stay in darkness. “If
anyone hears My words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save
the world. There is a judge for the one who rejects Me and does not accept My words; the very words I have
spoken will condemn them at the last day. For I did not speak on My own, but the Father who sent Me commanded
Me to say all that I have spoken. I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just
what the Father has told me to say.” Jesus explained the authority of His Word in Matthew 5:18, "I tell
you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means
disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." In Matthew 24:35 He declares, "Heaven and earth
will pass away, but My words will never pass away."
He has given us His Word for our benefit both here and eternally. He explains to us in
many ways the sovereignty of His Word. Psalm 119:89 declares, "Your Word, O LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in
the heavens." Those who do not respect and obey the Lord's Word will alone pay for it. For He has given it
for our eternal good.
Proverbs 13:13 declares, "He who scorns
instruction will pay for it, but He who respects a command is rewarded."
