Word for the Day November 4
By: Evang. Cascille Hammack
"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because He has
anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the
captives and release from darkness for the prisoners." Isaiah 61:1
Seven hundred years before Christ, Isaiah looked down through time and prophesied
the ministry and mission of Jesus. When Jesus began His ministry, He read this in the synagogue (see Luke 4:18,19).
He began reading it by saying, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." Luke 4:21. His ministry
involved preaching the gospel to the poor, the meek and the afflicted; healing and binding up the spiritually and physically
sick and brokenhearted; breaking the bonds of evil and proclaiming freedom from sin and demonic dominion and opening spiritual
eyes of the lost so that they might see the light of the gospel and be saved. This fourfold purpose characterized Jesus
Christ's entire ministry and it is fulfilled by the church until His return. It is our mandate to fulfill it.
1 John 2:6 declares, "Whoever claims to live in Him must live as Jesus did." It is Him living in us that fulfills
it through us. We love with the love of Christ and do His will because He lives in us. We are to proclaim
and bring freedom from misery that result from sin and the power of Satan- a condition of bondage to evil, brokenheartedness,
spiritual blindness and physical distress. We do this through His mighty power that works in us. His anointing-
His Holy Spirit lives in us and does the work of annihilating (not just breaking, but destroying as if it never existed) the
yokes of bondage. All power is given to Jesus and He resides in us and we live to do His will.
After Jesus' victory over sin, after the resurrection, He gave us His commission-
the Great Commission. Matthew 28:16-20, "Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where
Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and
said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them
to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
This is our assignment.
"It is for freedom that Christ
has set us free." Gal. 5:1 "Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the spirit of the Lord is, there is
freedom." 2 Cor. 3:17 Thank you Lord, for sending us to break bars of iron to proclaim and bring freedom
for the captives for Your glory!
"I will go before you and will level the mountains; I will break down gates of bronze and cut through
bars of iron." Isaiah 45:2
