"Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your
feet, you also should wash one another's feet. A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved
you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know you are My disciples, if you love one another." John
13:14, 34,35
The Greek word for love in the above scripture is agape. It
is a self-giving and sacrificial love that seeks the good of others. We are to actively seek the welfare of others.
Because God loved us and we experience His love, we are to love and help others, even at a personal cost. If we
love one another, God continues to live in us and His love is made complete in us. 1 John 4:12 says, "No one has
ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us." Love for others
is genuine Christian love only if it is accompanied by love for God and obedience to all of His commands. John 3:23
explains, "And this is His command: to believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as
He commanded us." Whose feet have you last washed? When have you honored someone else before yourself?
In what way does the world see you are truly Christ's disciple? In what way does Christ see His love evident in you
to the world? If you proclaim to be His disciple, is His Spirit evident in your life in all you do? 2 Cor. 13:5
says, "Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Chrsit
Jesus is in you- unless, of course, you fail the test."1 John 3:18 teaches, "Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth."
