Even though Jesus was healing people and pouring out His love to them,
many did not receive Him. It is the same today. When He asked His disciples who people were saying He
was, they answered, "John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others one of the prophets." Mark 8:28.
Some even said He had a demon and was out of His mind (John 10:20) others called Him a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of
sinners (Luke 7:34). Where are the people who spoke these words today? Where is our Savior? He is reigning
in Glory. It matters only what God says and that you have His approval.
Jesus knew well what it is to be hurt by those you are trying to help. When Jesus
learned Herod had beheaded John the Baptist (who He had said there were no greater born among women than he), we learn
that He withdrew to a solitary place. The crowds of people followed Him and He had compassion on them, even in
His grief, and healed them. His love for us surpasses understanding. In Luke 23:33-35, after people had ridiculed
Him and beat Him, "When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one
on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are
doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. The people stood watching, and the rulers
even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”
His victory remains. His love for us is greater than we could ever imagine.
After asking his disciples who people say He was, in Matthew 16:15-18 Jesus asked Peter,
“But what about you?” He asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon
Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed
are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.
And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it."
Christ is the Greek word for the Hebrew word Messiah, which means Anointed One.
Who do you say Jesus is today? Through
suffering, and death on the cross Jesus broke the powers of sin and death and accomplished our salvation for us.
There is nothing you are facing today that is greater than He. He has given us victory, through faith in Him, over all
things, even our death. Even in death we have the promise of eternal life in glory with Him. We must profess and believe that He is the Christ, the Son of the living God (Romans 10:9,10). We must
have faith that He is Lord and Savior and remain strong. We must live in the victory
of the cross by rejecting sin and by accepting His will.
Remember Romans 8:37,
"in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us." Jesus promised in John 16:33,
"I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart!
I have overcome the world." Revelation 1:5 promises, "and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful
witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and has freed us from our
sins by his blood".
