Word for the Day December

"This
is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24
Each day we have a choice to be thankful to the Lord and joyful in His
blessings. It is He that makes the sun rise and our hearts to beat within us. When we wake up, it is not of our
own volition, but because He has chosen to give us another day. We must choose to rejoice in the life He has given us
and be glad. For as a man "thinketh in his heart, so is he." Proverbs 23:7
Colossians 3:17 says, "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name
of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." If we understand that we did not even wake ourselves
up this morning, but it was He who caused our hearts to continue to beat today in order to bless us with another day, then
we will all realize our need to be thankful. In John 15:5, Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If
you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." In Matthew 5:36, He
said, "And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black."
Job 12:10 says of the Lord, "In
whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind."
Complaining is the opposite of being thankful. It does not please the Lord. 1 Corinthians
10:10,11 was written for us to learn from, "nor murmur, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed by the destroyer.
Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages
have come." One reason people turn from the Lord and become corrupt is from not being thankful. Romans 1:21 explains,
"because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts,
and their foolish hearts were darkened." The reason for ingratitude is pride. Someone who is not thankful thinks
they should have more. They believe they deserve better than they have. They believe that they alone are responsible
for all they have.
God welcomes our thanksgiving. His Word
commands us to be thankful. Colossians 3:15, "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were
called in one body; and be thankful." Thanksgiving does not just happen. As we grow in faith and understanding
of the Lord, thanksgiving to Him grows. Colossians 2:7 teaches, we are to be "rooted and built up in Him and
established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving."
1 Thessalonians 5:18 declares, "in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in
Christ Jesus for you." Being thankful to the Lord creates joy in our hearts because it is His will.
Rejoice today and be thankful. It will make your heart glad. Thank Him that Jesus is Lord. Thank Him that
your name is written in the Lambs Book of Life. Thank Him for loving you and waking you up and giving you another day.
Thank Him! It will change your life.
