Word
for the Day December 11
By: Evang. Cascille Hammack
"Jesus looked at them and said, “With
man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” " Matthew 19:26
In 2 Kings 4:1-7 Elisha, the prophet and man
of God was presented with a situation. One of the prophets, who was a member of the company of the prophets had gone
to be with the Lord. The company of the prophets were located in three regions, Gilgal, Bethel and Jericho. Elijah
had been their leader and when God took him, Elisha became their new leader.
The Word says that the wife of the prophet who died went to Elisha
and said, "Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming
to take my two boys as his slaves." This woman of God did not inquire of the bank or the world in what to do in
her dire situation. She and her family served the Lord and she waited with expectancy for God to move on her behalf.
She shared her situation with the man of God, Elisha, not with the ungodly of the world.
It is important that believers
understand that having no money is not a sign of God's disapproval. The father of this family was a prophet of the Lord.
God does not judge by this world's standards or economy. Jesus explains it in Matthew 20:16, "So the last will
be first and the first will be last." He promises in Matthew 19:28 that those who follow Him "will sit on
twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel." Jesus admonishes in John 7:24, "Stop judging by mere
appearances, and make a right judgment."
When Elisha heard the woman's situation, he said, "How can I help you? Tell me, what
do you have in your house?" 2 Kings 4:2 "Your servant has nothing there at all," she said, "except
a little oil." Oh, how God can receive all glory in our situations when there is nothing left at all! Indeed,
even when there is nothing left of us! For we are to die completely before we can be given the only TRUE life which
is in Jesus! What is dead in your life today that God can get the glory by resurrecting it? Are you dead today?
Be ready for a resurrection of new life if you have put your trust in Jesus!
So the woman of God was out of everything!
Praise God for a situation like this that HIS servant finds themselves in! For HE will get the glory!
Elisha's answer to her was to instruct her to
go around and ask all of the neighbors for empty jars. He said, "Don't ask for just a few." 2 Kings
4:3 In other words, believe God for great and mighty things. Do not limit God. Believe Him for big
things and impossible things. His next instructions to her were to "go inside and shut the door behind you
and your sons." You don't need a lot of people's opinions and judgments speaking regarding your situation. You
only need God. "Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side." 2 Kings 4:4
She did exactly as he said, shutting the
door so it was only she and her sons as God poured out a miracle for her and her sons. One by one, her sons brought
her the jars and as she poured, the oil did not run out until she filled the last jar. The man of God, Elisha, then
said, "Go sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left." 2 Kings 4:7
You must believe God in spite of all you see.
You must silence the talk of the naysayers, close the door on them, and let God show up and out in your situation and pour
you out a miracle that only HE can do! He will get all of the glory and you will be satisfied in a sun-scorched land.
He will say of you, "Well done good and faithful servant!..."
Matthew 25:23
In your situation, close the door right now. Stop telling everyone
else. Tell Him and then BELIEVE Him and do what He says. Then you will be OK.
