"For to us a child is born, to us a
son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6
Isaiah looked down through time seven hundred years before Christ and saw
the birth of Christ. Isaiah came from
a wealthy family in Jerusalem; he was educated, had gifts as a poet and prophet, was acquainted with royalty and gave prophetic
counsel to kings concerning Judah's affairs. He is regarded as the most literary and influential of the prophets.
He was married to a prophetess and they had two sons whose names contained a symbolic message for the nation. He is
considered the "evangelical prophet" because, of all the books in the Old Testament, his Messianic prophecies contain
the fullest and clearest declaration of Jesus Christ. He could see Him clearly 700 years before His birth and proclaimed
to the world who He is.
In Isaiah 9:6, he uses four
names to describe the fullness of who the Savior is. First, He is "Wonderful Counselor". This means he would be a supernatural wonder (the Hebrew word pele is only used of God, never a person or human work).
He would be the incarnation of perfect wisdom and disclose the plan of salvation, mightily anointed by the Holy Spirit to
carry out the Father's will and bring salvation to all nations (read Isaiah 11). Then he describes Jesus as "Mighty
God". Jesus is the fullness of the Deity in bodily form. Col. 2:9,10 explains, "For in Christ all
the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power
and authority." Next Isaiah describes Jesus as "Everlasting Father". He would not
just come to fulfill the will of the Father, but would also act as an eternal and compassionate father who loves and protects
His children supplying all of their needs. Psalm 103:13 describes, "As a Father has compassion on his children, so the
Lord has compassion on those who fear Him." Then Isaiah describes Him as "Prince of Peace".
Jesus' rule would bring peace with God through deliverance from sin and death for those who repent and receive Him.
Romans 5:1 explains, "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our LORD
JESUS CHRIST."
Let us exalt His Name Jesus Christ,
the son of God and glorify Him today, the "Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."(Is.
6:9) He will rule FOREVER! Amen. King Jesus - King of King and Lord of Lords! (1 Tim. 6:15, Rev. 17:14,
Rev. 19:16)
"Of
the increase of His government and peace there will be no end." Isaiah 9:7
"Your house and Your
kingdom will endure forever before Me; Your throne will be established forever." 2 Samuel 7:17
