Word for the Day December 31
By:
Evang. Cascille Hammack
"Then the Word of the LORD came to Isaiah: “Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘This is what
the LORD, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your
life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city." Isaiah
38:4-6
Hezekiah became ill and the prophet Isaiah gave him the
Word of the Lord to get his house in order because he would die. (Is. 38:1) Then Isaiah 38:2,3 says, "Hezekiah
turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, “Remember, LORD, how I have walked before you faithfully and
with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly." The Lord
heard his prayer and saw his tears and added 15 more years to his life and delivered him and the city. God
even gave him a sign that He would keep His promise. He said in Is. 38:7,8, “‘This is the LORD’s
sign to you that the LORD will do what He has promised: I will make the shadow cast by the sun go back the ten steps
it has gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.’” So the sunlight went back the ten steps it had gone down."
The next verses 9-20 are verses Hezekiah
wrote after his recovery and he praised the Lord. Isaiah 38:20 he promises, "The LORD will save
me, and we will sing with stringed instruments all the days of our lives in the temple of the LORD."
His heart was filled and overflowed with love and thankfulness to God because of His promise to him and the Lord's faithfulness
to bring it to pass. Hezekiah promised to make music and sing to the Lord in His temple for the rest of his earthly
life.
We must remember
all God has done for us and give Him glory and praise all of our days while we are on the earth. He is worthy of it
all and we are to constantly praise Him at each new day He gives us. No one is promised another day. We are bound
together by love, but we belong to the Lord and it is up to Him when He sends us here and when He takes us home. We
are to thank Him and praise Him every day He gives us to live. As David exorted in Psalm 118:24, "This
is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."
