Word for the Day January
10
By: Evang. Cascille Hammack
"While
He was still speaking, there came from the ruler's house some who said, "Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher
any further?" But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, "Do not fear, only believe." "
Mark 5:35
In Mark 5:35, the daughter of the synagogue ruler, Jairus, had
died. Jesus' reply was to uplift the father's faith, even in this seemingly hopeless situation. When He arrived
to where the child was, people were wailing and crying (verse 33). In Mark 5:39,40 "He went in and said to them,
"Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep. But they laughed at Him." How
many times have you expressed your faith to others in the face of seemingly impossible circumstances and they scoffed at you? I
personally remember one instance where I shared with someone how I trusted the Lord with a seemingly impossible situation
and they responded that they were "a very practical person" and they scoffed at me. That did not change that
the Lord still has the victory regardless of their lack of trust in Him. Their response does not change the outcome
so ignore those who scoff and keep trusting the Lord.
Verse 40 says, "After
He put them all out, He took the child's father and mother and the disciples who were with Him, and He went in to
where the child was." Then, "He took her by the hand and said to her, "Talitha koum!" (which
means, 'Little girl, get up!") Immediately the girl stood up and walked around. (she was 12 years old). At this
they were completely astonished." Mark 5:41,42
We must trust the Lord when all seems
lost. In these times, if we trust Him, He will give faith and deliverance according to His will and purpose. This
was true for Abraham (Ge. 22:2; James 2:21-22); Moses (Ex. 14:10-22); David (1 Sam 17:44-47); Johoshaphat (2 Chron. 20:1,2,
12); Jairus (Mark 5:21-23; 35-42) and it remains true to each of us today right now.
