Word for the Day February 23
Saturday

"For anyone
who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And He has given us this command:
Whoever loves God must love his brother." 1 John 4:20,21
When the love of Jesus Christ lives in your heart, it expresses itself in love for others.
No one can love you with the love of Christ if it is not in them. That does not in turn pardon you from loving them.
We are commanded to love our brothers. 1 John 4:7,8 says, "Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes
from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because
God is love."
1 John 3:18 tells us how we are to love, "Dear children, let us not love with words
or tongue but with actions and in truth." God sees into the depths of everyones heart and knows the love that is
there. Love is a verb and not a noun. It is action. People will not remember exactly the words you say to
them, but they will always remember how you make them feel by what you do. We are to demonstrate our love for others not
just in compassion and concern, but with actions. This tells what is in the heart and lets people know if you truly
have love in your heart for them. When we die, we will remember the times when we had opportunity to express love
and did not. This is eternal. 1 Cor. 13:8, "Love never fails..." To live a life of love, seeking
the welfare of others is important above all. If we love one another, God continues to live in us and His love is made
complete in us. (1 John 4:12)
Because God loved us, we are commanded to pour the love He has poured into
our hearts into the hearts of others. The Lord describes His rewards for love in Isaiah 58:9,10, when he describes
what true fasting is, "If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if
you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday." When you are born again, your heart and your desire becomes
His heart and His desire and His desire is to love His people.
1 John 4:16,17 explains, "God is love.
Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have
confidence on the day of judgement, because in this world we are like Him." Many people do not love because their
hearts are full of fear, but 1 John 4:18 says, "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because
fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love."
1 John 5:2 explains,
"This is how we know that we are the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands." And 1
John 5:5 says, "Who is it that overcomes the world? Only He who believes that Jesus is the Son of God."
When Jesus lives in your heart, you live a life of love, spending yourselves on behalf of God's children with His love
that dwells in you. This is His will for you.
