Word for the Day  February 24 Sunday
By:  Evang. Cascille Hammack

"After this, Jesus traveled about from one town to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God.  The Twelve were with Him , and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases:  Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; Joanna the wife of Cuza, the manager of Herod's household; Susanna; and many others.  These women were helping to support them out of their own means."  Luke 8:1-3

When we envision Jesus' time on the earth, we remember that His disciples were always with Him.  However, we learn from Luke 8:1-3 that many women were traveling with them.  It tells us they were supporting them out of their own means.  They honored Him by faithfullly contributing to support Jesus and His disciples by providing financial support.
Those who labor for the Lord deserve their wages.  Jesus said in Luke 10, do not take any provision when you go to spread His Gospel.  "When you enter a house, first say, 'Peace to this house.'  If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you.  Stay in that house, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages."  Luke 10:5,6
If God has placed on your heart to give to His kingdom and you have ignored this leading of His Spirit, you have hindered the work of God.  The women traveling with Jesus provided for their needs so they could continue the work of God unhindered by financial strain.  In the same way, God raises up servants today to provide for the natural means of those sent to proclaim His Word.  When God has directed you to financially support His work and you do not, the work of the Lord is hindered.  This is disobedience to God.  Romans 2:6-8 "God will give to each person according to what he has done.  To those by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, He will give eternal life.  But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger."  When you love the Lord, you give to support His work out of the love He has poured into your heart, so that others may hear and come to know Him.   Romans 10:14,15 explains it, "How, then can they call on the one they have not believed in?  And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?  And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?  And how can they preach unless they are sent?  As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"
