Word for the Day February 26
By: Pastor John Hammack
"for
the battle is the Lord's, and he will give all of you into our hands."(1 Samuel 17:47)
The story
of David and Goliath should be very strengthening to all believers. Goliath was a fighting warrior from his youth and
he was over nine feet tall. David was just a boy and had no fighting experience. When David approached Goliath,
he was not scared at all. David had faith and knew that God would fight on his behalf. David trusted not
in himself, but in God to win the victory over Goliath and the Philistines. David's confidence in the Lord's power had
been strengthened by his memory of previous times when he had prayed for and experienced God's deliverance. David also
had a heart for God that caused him to seek the Lord always.
Goliath cursed Israel and God.
This made David angry. David had a zealous and deep concern for the honor and reputation of the Lord God of Israel.
He recognized that Goliath was defying not just the armies of Israel, but the Lord Almighty. David said, "You
come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of
the armies of Israel, whom you have defiled. This day the Lord will hand you over to me, and I'll strike you down and
cut off your head." David ran to meet Goliath with the confidence that God would be fighting for him.
Whenever we face seemingly impossible problems and situations, those giants can be overcome if we exercise faith like David
and depend on the power of the Holy Spirit.
