Word for the Day  April 24
By:  Evang. Cascille Hammack

"Be devoted to one another in brotherly love.  Honor one another above yourselves."  Romans 12:10

We live in a self-absorbed and self-seeking world.  The man inspired doctrine of self and psychology say your focus must be on yourself- on your life.  This is contrary to the Word of God and to the law of Christ.  Gal. 6:2 commands, "Carry one anothers burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ."  1 John 2: 4, 6 instruct, "The man who says I know Him, but does not do what He commands is a liar and the truth is not in Him.  Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus walked."
We must live a life honoring others above ourselves.  Eph. 5:1,2 describes it, "Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God."  A person can not love with the love of Christ if it is not in them.  They will serve themselves.  People prove by their actions if they belong to Christ.  2 John 1:6 teaches, "And this is love:  that we walk in obedience to His commands.  As you have heard from the beginning, His command is that you walk in love."
We do not live by man's instructions about man.  Jesus said in Mt. 4:4, "It is written:  Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God."  Jesus said in Luke 9:23,24, "If anyone would come after Me, He must deny Himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.  For whoever wants to save His life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for Me will save it." Of those who follow their own understanding, serving themselves in selfishness, the Word declares, "They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts."  They have no sensitivity to the Holy Spirit.  But we must not follow after them.  God has called us to honor others above ourselves and to put the interest of others above our own.
