Word for the Day May 1
By: Evang. Cascille Hammack
"Then the Lord said to Moses, "I will rain down
bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way, you
will test them and see whether they will follow My instructions." Exodus 16:4
God orders
circumstances in our lives to test our faith and our willingness to obey Him. Right after the Lord gave the above instructions
to Moses to give to the Israelites while they were in the desert, they began to immediately disobey and complain. He
told them to gather only what they needed for the day, to teach them daily dependence on Him. Nevertheless, there were
those who tried to store up the manna and it rotted the next day, smelled and had maggots. Why can't people just believe
God. He gives us His Word for our own benefit. We hurt only ourselves when we do not obey Him. He told the
Israelites to keep the Sabbath a day of rest. Nevertheless, there were those who went out to gather manna on the Sabbath
and found none. The Lord said in Exodus 16:28, "How long will you refuse to keep My commands and My instructions?"
God knew if they refused to rest on the Sabbath as He did when He created the world on the seventh day, they would deplete
their physical strength and spiritual strength and be weighed down by the earthy worries and pursuits. This results
in God being put to a place of least importance in our lives. We must observe the Sabbath. We must depend on Him
for our needs for each day, not being anxious about tomorrow. Anxiety and fear is the opposite of trust. Psalm
37:8, "Do not fret, it leads only to evil." Are you going to trust in yourself today or trust Him with everything
for your life today?
