Word for the Day May 4
By: Evang. Cascille Hammack
"Jesus
said to His disciples" 'Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to the one through whom they
come. It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause
one of these little ones to sin. So watch yourselves." Luke 17:1,2
Jesus gives strong warning to those who would cause his children to sin. There are many things that can cause one to
sin. Pastors and teachers who have been entrusted with Jesus' sheep and have a relaxed attitude toward sin and ungodliness,
some even teaching sin is acceptable, have a strong warning from the Lord. God's Word has never changed nor has His
righteous decrees. His Word is the same, yesterday, today and forever. He requires holiness and a made up mind
to serve Him. You can not compromise with the world and sin and serve the Lord. You must repent and turn from
sin. As Jesus told the woman caught in adultery in John 8:11, "Go now and leave your life of sin."
Jesus is able to deliver completely all who come to Him from any bondage of sin. His payment of His blood shed on the
cross is a complete payment. He paid it all. All who give Him their lives will be free. Galatians 5:1 declares,
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm then and do not let yourselves be yoked again to
a bondage of slavery."
Jesus explained John 8:47, "He who belongs to God hears what
God says." 1 John 3:6 makes it plain, "No one who lives in Him keeps on sinning. No one who continues
to sin has either seen Him or known Him. Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is
right is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has
been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work. No one who
is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born
of God."
